Description
English Heritage grade II listed and dating from the 18th Century, this traditional thatched cottage lies on the edge of the unspoilt village of Knowle near the coastal town of Budleigh Salterton. Leo and Mandy Dickinson, the owners, live in the adjacent cottage and extend to you a warm welcome.
Although we have advertised this cottage as having 2 bedrooms there is an optional large ground floor 3rd bedroom with en-suite wet room which can be added to the booking for an additional £120 to the advertised price. This large twin room has been built for people with limited mobility in mind and was awarded a mobility rating of two. It is large enough to accommodate people in wheelchairs, has 1 electric bed and it's own remote TV. It is accessed from the conservatory and when not required this door is locked. Furnished and equipped to a high four star standard Badgers Den has two upstairs bedrooms 1 double, 1 twin and a downstairs bathroom with shower over the bath. The house is gas centrally heated which is included in the price along with the electric linen and all towels except beach towels.
The cosy carpeted lounge/ diner has a gas fire, flat screen digital TV two double sofas and chair plus a cd player, and games. The dining table sits 6 comfortably.and is next to the large window looking over the front garden and the vineyard opposite.
The sunny conservatory, on the back of the lounge, has its own cane sofa, chairs and nest of tables. It overlooks the back garden and is the best place to use the Wi-Fi. The modern elm kitchen has a tiled floor, Neff electric cooker & gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, Neff washing up machine and Miele washer/dryer.
The cottage has its own secluded garden with a patio, wooden furniture and a BBQ it is accessed from the kitchen by a few steps. There is off road parking for 2 cars.
Well behaved dogs are very welcome.
The cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside and opposite a vineyard is a great place for walks straight from the door. The Budleigh Commons are easily accessible for walking and bike riding as is the coastal path and lovely walks along the river Otter are a short drive away. It is a 25 minute walk to the town of Budleigh Salterton and the pebble beach. Approximately 5 miles to the town of Exmouth and its sandy beach.
The combined village pub and shop is 100yards and serves good food. Badgers den is an ideal place for a base to visit the many attractions in the surrounding area. It is in great bird watching territory, off road cycling, fishing, horseriding and golf are all available locally.
Nearby attractions are Bicton Gardens, A la Ronde - National Trust Property, the Jurassic Coast, the donkey sanctuary, the town of Exeter with its lovely Cathedral and about an hours drive to Dartmoor and probably two hours drive to the Eden project. |
